Hepatitis Delta International Network

What is the Hepatitis Delta International Network?

Despite its varied prevalence, chronic Hepatitis Delta represents a major health burden all over the world. Further research to understand underlying biological mechanisms, pathogenesis and clinical trials to improve the available treatments are urgently needed. The prevalence of hepatitis Delta in countries that could afford this research is very low, making it hard to get enough patients to be able to draw conclusions. In those countries where Hepatitis Delta is endemic the needed resources are lacking.

The Hepatitis Delta international Network is a world wide project that aims to:

  1. Collect clinical information from hepatitis delta patients from all over the planet and build up a world wide database that will enable and facilitate further research on chronic Hepatitis Delta.
  2. To better inform patients about their viral infection, actual status and evolution of liver disease throughout time. To give them the tools to inform other peers and medical professionals about the significance and consequences of a chronic hepatitis D infection.
  3. To allow the participating physicians to track their HDV patients, their therapies, signs and symptoms
